This campaign is supported by a BFF secretariat, consisting of 25 people spread across Europe.

We are looking for a program lead, responsible for developing and supporting European ‘on the ground’ strategies to promote renewable energy and other solutions (energy efficiency, energy storage, grids) while opposing fossil fuels. The program lead has a special focus on intermediary decision makers (i.e. small and medium sized enterprises, big retailers and municipalities), given their important role in implementing the energy transition in real life. They oversee the campaign efforts to identify and promote locations for renewable energy projects. They also help shine a spotlight on carefully selected locations in order to challenge fossil fuels and make the case for renewables. They lead a small team of enthusiastic and experienced campaigners.

This will be done by working closely with the campaigner on coal & gas and the campaigner on renewables & intermediary decision makers.
  • Leading the development of a campaign strategy on ‘organising intermediary decision makers for the energy transition’, which includes the coalition’s campaign work on locations for renewables and other solutions (‘go to areas’, RES siting) for the coalition, in collaboration with the campaigner on renewables and intermediary decision makers.
  • Activating and supporting partners, connecting to potentially new partners as well as reaching out to allies, especially at local and national level, as part of developing the strategy, its implementation and plugging local level funding and capacity gaps.
  • Identifying opportunities for synergies and contributions from other areas of work of the campaign that will help with the ‘on the ground’ approach overall and the strategy on ‘intermediary decision makers’ in particular and vice versa.
  • Contributing to the coalition and secretariat strategy processes, planning, fundraising, budget oversight and grant drafting/reporting.
  • Identifying gaps and putting in place with partners appropriate working structures, support and potentially co-convene working groups or task forces.
  • Line-managing one or more positions.
  • If time permits, coordinating campaign pushes and campaign moments.

Required skills & experience

  • You have at least ten years experience in climate or energy campaigning
  • You have at least three years of line management experience

  • You have a good understanding of civil society organisations and the non-profit sector
  • You possess thorough knowledge of climate, energy, and environmental issues

  • You have work experience in community organising with local civil society groups, grassroots, or municipalities.
