With this we estimate an approximate additional 41 coal plants totalling 23 GW will close by 2030 and 15 plants totalling almost 19 GW are still meant to operate after 2030 and close by 2038 (with an option to close by 2035). This makes the German coal exit incompatible with the UN Paris climate agreement, whilst providing massive overcompensation to the coal industry for closing uneconomic plants very late.
